So, it’s that time of year again. The sun will be heading off for it’s BC style big sleep and we’ll get to enjoy a few (or 8) months of rain and cloud and we’ll make our promises to never complain about hot and sunny weather again. In a way, winter is kind of like that awful hangover of seasons. They will keep happening and we’ll keep on telling ourselves that we definitely won’t gripe about the heat when it finally comes back.
With the autumn weather on its way, parents send their little monsters off to school after a long summer of kid filled days, back yard BBQ’s and plenty of summer activities. Of course we love the summer, and of course we love our kids, but back to school means a bit of free time and a chance to regale over how our little darlings are getting another year older, wiser and more independent.
We’ve come up with a mini celebration of sorts at the brewery. We’ve come up with a way to celebrate the little milestones one reflects on as the summer winds down and one does not simply reflect on life without friends, food, music and of course great beer!
The Back to School Freedom Fest is a great chance to wind down with friends and take a bit of a mental break before we grind our way into the fall.
The Translators, a great local band is our entertainment for the night. Their homegrown and salt of the earth music is a great combo for Yellow Dog Beer and Taco Kwon Do, our local food truck. It’s going to be a great night!
A little bit about the band…
“We write a lot of songs about trains!” say The Translators. While life-long friends Ethan and Darren aren’t exactly sure where this train inspiration came from, it serves them well as a description of their energetic folk-rock style of play; whether it’s a train slowly pulling into the station or one about to go off the rails!
Though Ethan and Darren do not try to take themselves too seriously, their best asset is likely their song writing; dominated by deep themes of love, religion, turmoil and conflict. Mostly playing house concerts and small shows for their closest friends and family, The Translators are always overjoyed when they can play a show without setting up all of the sound equipment! With friends Danelle (keys), Eric (bass), and Kevin (percussion) fleshing out the full band with their musical talents and general “good vibes,” The Translators are sure to captivate you with their passionate melodies and intricate harmonies.
